THE HAPPY PLACE
DRIVE-THRU
A JOYRIDE THROUGH A PARKING GARAGE WONDERLAND
In response to the COVID‑19 pandemic, The Happy Place—the beloved Instagram‑museum of happiness—reimagined itself as a fully drive‑through experience, taking over two levels of the Westfield Century City parking garage in Los Angeles. Sponsored by American Express, Westfield, and Subaru, the activation transformed a utilitarian space into a multi‑floor maze of bright, interactive installations designed to spread joy from the safety of a car.
Cinereal partnered with the creators to bring a brand new, show-stopping finale to life through conceptual renderings, design consultation, and the creation of our own original installation: Winky’s Car Wash. Guests cruised through a surreal, sensory‑layered car wash filled with shimmering bubbles, an infrared warming corridor, and a hypnotic tunnel of rainbow pinwheels before finishing in a “State Park” of scented air‑freshener trees designed to leave the entire car filled with the aroma of a whimsical escape.
CINEREAL’S CREATIVE VISUALIZATION AND EXPERIENTIAL DESIGN ENSURED EACH MOMENT FELT AS FANTASTICAL AND UPLIFTING AS THE MUSEUM’S NAMESAKE, DELIVERING A SOCIALLY DISTANCED EXPERIENCE THAT REMINDED GUESTS: PANDEMIC OR NOT THAT HAPPINESS COULD STILL BE JUST A DRIVE AWAY.
